How much will software upgrades cost?

Software upgrades will be periodically available AT NO CHARGE directly from the web. These will include some feature upgrades, and all software bug fixes will always be FREE!.
Some new features will become available from time to time, that will be available with software upgrades for a minimal charge (prices may vary depending on the feature).

NetPlace looks like a computer, can I use it as one?

NetPlace is designed with some common computer components, both mechanical and electronic. This is intended to provide the lowest cost product possible. As computer products are produced in large quantities, the cost to us is quite low. That savings is passed on to the consumer in lower product costs. Mechanically this also enables expandability that smaller packages would not allow.
NetPlace also includes some custom hardware for specific functions that is not available in other computer or components.

While NetPlace resembles some PC's on the market, it is not a PC, and cannot be used as one. NetPlace is intended to be installed out of sight, in a wiring / networking room, closet, or cabinet, and does not consume desk space.

Unlike PC's, NetPlace uses high performance software, including many proprietary components, in a highly optimized system. Therefore it would not be practical to install off-the-shelf software applications that would be necessary for a common PC.

While other commercial and real-time operating systems exist for server applications, NetPlace is designed to use the Linux operating system. Linux is a low-cost, customizable operating system, with the best possible reliability, and performance. NetPlace is designed with a customized Linux operating system to provide a super reliable, high performance network device at minimal consumer cost.
